What Is Imagine Sonday System?

A laptop and tablet displaying Imagine MyPath product screens

Imagine Sonday System is a robust line of digital and print materials designed to help educators provide multisensory reading instruction to students. Using a proven Orton-Gillingham approach, Imagine Sonday System helps teachers identify, intervene with, and help students catch up with their peers. The programs can be used in whole-class implementations (Tier 1) but are particularly designed to support intervention for students not at grade level (Tier 2) and students with dyslexia, in special education, or English language learner programs (Tier 3).

Why Become a Research Partner?

Imagine Learning invites school districts to take part in a research study evaluating the effectiveness of Imagine Sonday System. This research will empower both your district and schools nationwide to make data-driven decisions that improve student outcomes. Here’s why your participation matters:

star

Access to a high-quality program

Half of your students will get access to Imagine Sonday System, designed to help struggling readers by using stage-based content and multisensory instruction grounded in the science of reading. Access may be extended to all students in the year following the study.

Meaningful data to drive change

Your district will receive in-depth reports and insights from the study. The results will allow you to compare students using the program with those who aren’t, providing valuable data to guide future curricular decisions.

A national impact

By joining this study, your district will contribute to research that has the potential to transform literacy education nationwide. The data collected will help schools across the country implement best practices for digital learning.

What Does This Research Study Look Like?

1

Use Imagine Sonday System for reading intervention in some classrooms

How do you determine who uses the program?

Most commonly, teachers are given the choice to opt into using the program in their classroom or group.

What about classrooms that do not use Imagine Sonday System?

Non-user classrooms will continue with whatever instructional practices and curriculum are already in place.

2

Students participate in 35-minute small-group sessions (Imagine Sonday System 1 or Imagine Sonday System 2) or 25-minute whole-classroom sessions (Imagine Sonday System Essentials), depending on the program being studied. Students complete a page of their Student Notebook for each lesson, participate in all steps of a lesson plan, and complete all Mastery Checks and other relevant Imagine Sonday System assessments throughout the year.

Teachers complete all professional development sessions, incorporate all steps of a lesson plan, follow the included pacing recommendations, and monitor Student Notebook data to inform instruction. Teachers administer Mastery Checks and other relevant Imagine Sonday System assessments throughout the year.

3

Administer a standardized benchmark reading assessment

Who has to take the assessment?

All participating students in both user and non-user classrooms must take the assessment.

Will this be a new assessment?

If your district already administers a standardized reading benchmark assessment (e.g., NWEA, Renaissance Star), no additional assessments need to be administered. If not, we can explore new assessment options.

What is the value of comparative research studies?

Experts agree that comparative research provides conclusive information regarding program effectiveness. While this research design requires the selection of program users and non-user groups, it provides many benefits, including:

Fair and balanced research

To truly evaluate the program’s effectiveness, it’s essential to have a control group (students who do not use the program) to compare outcomes. This ensures the findings are scientifically sound and can lead to lasting improvements in education.

Opportunity for future program expansion

Access to Imagine Sonday System may be expanded to additional schools and classrooms after the completion of the study. Implement the program in additional classrooms with experience and confidence.

No student left behind

Even without Imagine Sonday System in the first year, all students in the control group will continue to receive the high-quality instruction already provided by your schools. The control group will still benefit from the high instructional standards your district maintains.
